She may have played it cool on The Bachelor, but Mia, 24, says she was ready to walk when her best friend, Vintaea did, claiming Richie just wasn’t her type.

Even though things might not have worked out for her on the show, she says she has no regrets…

Demeter Stamell goes in…

What did you think of Richie when you first met him?

He was different. He’s very different to what I usually go for, but it didn’t work out with anyone before, so…

What is your type?

I usually go for someone who’s sporty… I like someone who’s tall, dark and handsome, and he was the opposite of that, but it didn’t work with the other guys, so I thought I’d give it a go.

What was going through your mind when you realised you were walking towards Richie during your first meeting?

Well, I pretended I didn’t know who he was! [Laughs] I was like, “Oh, hi! What’s your name? I’m Mia,” and in my head, I’m like, “I know who you are. I have no reasoning for why I did that…” [Laughs] I tried to play it calm and collected.

How did you feel when you were eliminated?

I was fine! I wasn’t really feeling it, and I don’t think Richie was really feeling it… There’s no hard feelings. I didn’t really mind. I was kind of ready at that point to go myself. There were no hard feelings.

How did you find the group date?

I found it really awkward, and I only got to talk to him for a minute! I thought I was going to get more time, but at the end of the day, you’re sharing your time with other girls as well. It was fine though. I had fun, and I made heaps of friends while I was there.

Some of the girls seem really aggressive, so how was it battling with so many big personalities for Richie’s attention?

I’m not like that. I could have played the big personality too, and have pretended I was someone completely different from who I was, but I told myself from the beginning that I was going to be myself, and that’s fine. I’m not prepared to change myself for anyone.

What was going through your mind when Vintaea got up and left?

I knew she was going to leave. She told me before she left that that’s what she planned on doing. For a second, I thought, “Do I go with her?” Richie wasn’t my type, but I thought I’d give it a chance. I’m glad I stayed that extra week, but Vin knew what she was doing.

I think it was great, and I’m really proud of her. She was standing up for what she wants, and she knew it wasn’t right, so she wasn’t going to waste her time or his time. She’s awesome.

So you were having doubts early on then…

It’s just such a full on experience. I don’t regret it or anything like that. I really enjoyed my time. But it’s different. You don’t expect to be put in a room with a bunch of girls, and fortunately they were all nice girls. Or nice to me, at least.
