You can’t say she didn’t give it a good go. But after a disastrous group date with Richie, Laura, 25, realised there were other places she’d rather be – like on her couch at home with a big bag of chips.

Demeter Stamell sat down with her to talk about why she would have rather dated the other girls – her words, not ours.

Why did you decide to go on the show?

My friends put me up for it. They dared me.

How did you feel about Richie being The Bachelor?

I thought he was cute and lovely. He had a bit of a sparkle in his eye… I was quite enchanted. But I really wanted a fresh Bachelor who hadn’t experienced it before, so they were going through the same emotions you were going through.

I wanted someone who you could just look at and go, “We’ll get through this. It’s all good. I’m in the same boat.” I think he had a bit of an advantage, and it wasn’t as organic as I wanted it to feel.

So you felt it was fake?

I just found it all really regimental. He was a little bit like, “Been here, done that…” Richie knew exactly what was going on. He probably slept like a baby at night because he knew exactly what to expect! [Laughs]

Tell us about your date…

It was just a doozy! I wasn’t loving it, Richie didn’t seem like he was in there. I didn’t feel like I really wanted to be there anymore. I just didn’t feel like he was stimulating me at all. He just really wasn’t doing it for me.

I called the camera over and said I wanted out. I told them that I just wasn’t into him. They asked, “Do you think you’ll get a rose?” and I was like, “Nah, I don’t really want a rose.” [Laughs]

So you were happy to be eliminated?

I was pretty much laughing throughout the whole rose giving ceremony! [Laughs] Everyone was completely shocked, but I was like, “I’m not.” [Laughs] I wanted to go out on a nice note, and I didn’t want to just walk out like Vintaea. I didn’t want to give the poor guy a heart attack!

Speaking of the other girls, what did you think of them?

They are all smart, beautifully intelligent, diverse women. You couldn’t find a more mixed group of girls with such beautiful souls. I actually wanted to date the girls! [Laughs]

What about Keira? She seems like the villain on the show…

There was always going to be someone who needed to have a target on them, and so be it.

Who will win it?

I’m going to go for Richie. I reckon Richie’s got it in the bag. It’s just going to be Richie and a mirror. I think he’ll look at himself in the mirror and go, “Thank you, Richie. I thought you’d never ask.” And that’s it! They’ll go off together and live happily ever after in TV land.

Did you find him a bit full of himself then?

Look, he seemed like a really lovely guy, but when you’re not feeling something, you’re not feeling something. I just didn’t feel like he was holistically as rounded in certain areas as I am.

When you know it’s not going to be a match, I was just like, “Well, I’m not going to waste my time.”
