STOP EVERYTHING! There’s going to be a live-action remake of The Lion King and we can’t even deal!!!

Yep, Walt Disney Studios announced on Wednesday that they’re teaming up with director Jon Favreau to remake one of the most successful (and best) animated movies in history – but there’s no release date as of yet.

“We can officially confirm that the Walt Disney Studios and director Jon Favreau are putting a new reimagining of ‘The Lion King’ on the fast track to production,” the studio said in a statement.

“The project follows the technologically groundbreaking smash hit ‘The Jungle Book,’ directed by Favreau, which debuted in April and has earned $965.8 million worldwide.”

The live-action remake will be BEYOND…

Just like the remake of Beauty and the Beast set for release next year, The Lion King will include songs from the animated version of the film, Disney said.

Released back in 1994 (yep, it was that long ago!), The Lion King became one of the biggest animated films ever, with a lifetime global box-office gross of just under $1 billion. WOAH!

BRB, just watching it AGAIN.
