Don’t worry Making a Murderer fans, Steven Avery‘s story isn’t over yet!

Yep, after scoring six Emmy noms recently, Netflix announced this morning that the network has commissioned a new season of the doco series that swept the world by storm.

“We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response to, and support of, the series,” producers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos said in a joint statement.

“The viewers’ interest and attention has ensured that the story is not over, and we are fully committed to continuing to document events as they unfold.”

And the story continues…

According to Netflix, the new episodes will “take fans of the acclaimed documentary series back inside the story of convicted murderer Steven Avery, and his co-defendant, Brendan Dassey, as their respective investigative and legal teams challenge their convictions and the State fights to have the convictions and life sentences upheld.”

Steven’s new lawyer Kathleen Zellner, as well as Brendan’s legal team, will be featured on the show for even more intimate access to the case.

It’s not sure how long production will take on the second season, as the first season was produced over a period of 10 years.

It’s unlikely that Netflix will enter into another ten-year deal to produce the sequel, so it won’t be as detailed as the first series.

“Because of Ricciardi’s and Demos’ incredible vision, commitment and keen eye, audiences around the globe became completely captivated by the personal stories of Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey and the unique lens their experiences provide into the criminal justice system” Lisa Nishimura – Netflix VP of Original Documentary Programming, said.

“We’re thrilled to be continuing our longstanding relationship with the filmmakers, and look forward to giving our global viewers eagerly anticipated updates on this story.”

Season 2 is set to look like a cracker!

No doubt we’ll be hooked on this season too!
