James Corden makes us laugh and cry – with laughter, as the hilarious host of The Late Late Show in the US.

He’s boosted the show’s popularity since he took over last year, now bringing in audiences in excess of 1 million thanks to the popular segment like Carpool Karaoke.

In honour of his 38th birthday on Monday, BBC shared some hilarious throwback footage of him as a teen, interviewing Meat Loaf in 1995.

And it’s not hard to see why he is as successful as he is. He’s always had the charm that we love about him, even when he was just a youngster!

The full clip opens with James on the set of Good Morning with Anne and Nick, introducing himself as the Young Good Morning Showbiz Reporter.

“I’ll be bringing you all the top gossip, plus an exclusive interview with Meat Loaf.” Naww!

James as a teen…

The vid then shows James outside a fancy hotel, ready to interview Meat Loaf.

“Hi, this is James right here and I’m Meat Loaf and we’re doing this English breakfast show and it’s like really cool.”

As seen in the full clip, Meat Loaf gave the future star some career advice, telling him:

“The one thing you’ve gotta do, is that you need to always do the best you can do, no matter what the given situation, no matter what comes up against you. You do the best you can do and you never give up. Never quit.”

And James took that advice – clearly – because he’s now a mega successful TV host!
