Finally, the writer of Beyonce‘s song Sorry has revealed what the controversial lyric ‘Becky with the good hair’ really means!

Yep, although the whole world thought the track was about Jay Z cheating on Bey with a woman called Becky, songwriter Diana Gordon says that’s not the case at all.

She revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the lyric wasn’t actually pointing the finger at anyone in particular, and she was surprised it caused so much outrage.

“I laughed, like this is so silly. Where are we living?’ she told EW of the lyric, which says: “He only want me when I’m not there / He better call Becky with the good hair.”

“I was like, ‘What day in age from that lyric do you get all of this information? Is it really telling you all that much, accusing people?”‘

Diana Gordon, formerly known as Wynter Gordon, was the songwriter for the controversial track

When Diana was asked if she’d spoken to Beyoncé about the public reaction to the song, she said: “I don’t think she expected it.

“I saw her at her Formation tour. She had a pyjama party; we laughed, we danced, we hugged it out. But I didn’t say much about it at the time because I wanted to give her space.

“The idea started in my mind but it’s not mine anymore. It was very funny and amusing to me to watch it spread over the world.

“If it’s not going to be me saying it, and the one person in the world who can say it is Beyoncé, I was f**king happy. With Beyoncé, I feel like the songs we worked on were specifically for her.”

Since the release of Bey’s album Lemonade in April, her fans have been trying to track down the infamous ‘Becky,’ and celebs including Rachel Roy, Rita Ora and Taylor Swift were among those rumoured to be Jay Z’s side-chick.

While Taylor never commented on the allegation, Rachel and Rita denied the rumors.

“There is no validity to the idea that the song references me personally. There is no truth to the rumors,” Rachel said in a statement, while Rita wrote on Instagram: “I never usually address tabloid gossip but let me be clear, these rumours are false. I have nothing but the upmost respect for Beyoncé. Let’s continue enjoying Lemonade.”

Jay Z responded to the cheating rumours with his own song

Well then, the mystery is solved!
