Over the weekend, rumours were circulating that Drew Barrymore and her husband of three years, Will Kopelman were set to divorce – and sadly, they confirmed the news on Saturday in a joint statement – insisting that their daughters Olive, three and Frankie, 23 months will remain their top priority.

“Sadly our family is separating legally, although we do not feel this takes away from us being a family,” they told People magazine.

“Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on. Our children are our universe, and we look forward to living the rest of our lives with them as the first priority.”

And what are the reasons behind the divorce might you ask? Well apparently one of them was the disagreements over where to base their young family.

“There was tension over where to live,” a source told People, explaining that Drew wanted to live in LA, while their home was on New York’s Upper East Side. They have decided to stay on the East Coast until they discuss their future arrangements.

Drew, 41 and Will, 38, started dating in February 2011, and married in June 2012 at her Californian home, while she was five months pregnant. Drew has previously admitted that it “was never really love at first sight” with Will.

“Will struck a lot of my pragmatic sides,” she told InStyle. “He was someone who was always reachable on the phone, someone who was a classy human being, someone who has this incredible blueprint of a family that I don’t have.”

She also told Us Weekly last November, that marriage requires a lot of comprise.

“My husband and I compromise on a lot of things…,” she said. “It’s the little things that you can change that can make a relationship stronger. Compromise is about changing yourself for the better. It’s an opportunity for you to become a more functional, better person.”

Such heartbreaking news!

Happy anniversary Mr. Kopelman, cheers to you! I love you and I love our daughters !!!!!!! #threeyears
