Did you know? According to old Indian texts, there are 84 basic yoga poses, and each of those has 100,000 variations!

What’s more, yoga is proven to provide more body awareness, self-confidence, creativity, balance and better sleep – as well as toning, improving flexibility and overall muscle strength.

Yoga by numbers…

650 – The muscles activated when you practise

2500 – The kilojoules you may burn in an hour of yoga, depending on the type

5 – The minutes it takes to feel the effects of meditating

There are so many postures, but here are two you’ll find in nearly every class – try them at home!

Ideal back-bend for beginners

Try this move for more mobility in the spine

A) Lie on your front, facing the mat, with your palms flat on the floor by your chest. Roll each leg inward, pressing your feet and toes down firmly.

B) Inhale, straighten the arms and push up to lift the chest off the floor.

B). Hold the pose for 4-5 breaths, then release to the floor as you exhale.
