It’s no secret that when life gives Beyonce lemons, she makes lemonade! And when vacays give her a little more jiggle ahead of high-profile events, it turns out she takes on fitness guru Marco Borges’s 22-day Vegan Challenge!

“I felt like my skin was really firm, a lot tighter… And the weight stayed off,” Bey says of her foray into plant-based eating. “I still eat meat, and it’s all about balance, but absolutely I make better choices.”

Having dropped to a rumoured size-10 the first time she took the challenge in 2013, the 34-year-old has repeated the program several times since, even partnering with Marco to start up a vegan meal-delivery service.

How does it work?

Along with providing a high-fibre, protein-rich, low-kilojoule meal plan, the program aims to break bad eating habits.

“You’re obviously going to lose weight over the course of the 22 days and you’re going to feel better, eat better, have better digestion and clearer skin and your energy level is going to go up,” Marco explains.

“All these amazing things are going to happen, but, unlike most diets, beyond the 23rd day you’re still reaping the benefits of it.”

Ideally, you’ll also develop a new passion for veg – which is health gold!

What’s on the menu?

“A plant-based diet is made up of fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, legumes, beans and unrefined grains – quinoa, amaranth, brown rice, etc – and absent of any products that come from anything with an eye,” explains Marco. “No meat, poultry, fish, dairy, cheese and honey.

In addition, a plant-based diet avoids highly processed foods and refined grains, and instead is made up of edibles found as close to their natural state as possible.”

But that doesn’t mean you don’t get dessert!

Check out what a yummy day Bey has…
