We’re frothing over the new Bey album Lemonade, which she unveiled to the world on Saturday night, in an hour-long special on HBO.

She gave previews of different songs from her new album in a music video style – a ‘visual album’, which is something the music biz hasn’t seen before – and of course, people loved it.

The show started with Bey sitting in front of a red curtain, where she sang: “You can taste the dishonestly, it’s on your breath … I tried to make a home out of you, but doors led to trapdoors. A stairway leads to nothing.” The accompanying video showed her throwing herself off a building and landing in water. Yikes!!!

She then smashed a window with  baseball bat, continuing: “What’s worse, looking jealous or crazy? Jealous or crazy? They don’t love you like I love you. Can’t you see there’s no other man above you? What a wicked way to treat the one who loves you.”

Lemonade was a tribute to black women, and also a deeply personal story to Beyonce. She shared home movies of her dad, her wedding to Jay Z, her pregnancy, and daughter Blue Ivy’s birthday party.

The ‘world premiere event’ on HBO was a long time coming for fans, who have been waiting for the album release since Beyonce’s single Formation debuted in February.

Lemonade is available to stream on Tidal.
