Kesha is breaking her silence about her personal struggles, revealing that she “almost killed herself” trying to be thin while working for Dr Luke.

In a recent interview with New York Times Magazine, the 29 year-old superstar claims she was body shamed by her former producer and mentor.

“I was under immense pressure to starve myself,” she told the magazine. “And I tried to and almost killed myself in the process.”

In 2010, Kesha’s first album, Animal, was released to the public, and shortly after, she went on tour. It was around that time that the singer recalls a sudden shift in Dr. Luke’s behaviour. She claims that he began criticising her weight in public and once called her a “fat [expletive] refrigerator.”

Dr. Luke and his legal team have since denied the allegations and subsequently counter-sued for defamation.

The “Tik Tok” singer claims that the alleged body shaming and stress of the industry led her to an eating disorder and in 2014, she entered a treatment centre.

“Someone I work with has literally driven me into this disease, tortured me and [expletive] with me and my family,” she wrote on social media, while still in treatment. “So I’m here taking time and getting my magic back dammit.”

After treatment, Kesha explains she felt as though she was “taking back my strength, and I was taking back my voice, and taking back my power, taking back my body. I’m just taking back my [expletive] life.”

We’re glad you’re on the mend, Kesha!!
