The A-lister's guide to the snow

We all know Kate Moss loves the white powder (and no, not that kind) – we’re talking about hitting the slopes in a beautiful winter wonderland. Along with Kate, celebs like Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake and Victoria Beckham are often spotted carving it up (and later letting down their hair, après-ski style) in Vail, Verbier and the famous French Alps.

While Aspen may be out of reach for those of us without a celeb-worthy bank account, Perisher Blue in NSW’s Snowy Mountains is definitely a more affordable – and not to mention much closer – winter alternative. Aussie celebs including Ruby Rose, Jade MacRae and Erin McNaught can often be seen partying up a snowstorm in the largest ski resort in the Southern Hemisphere, Perisher Blue. And it’s never been easier to get in on the white kind of action this winter. Keep reading for our A-lister guide to the snow stuff this season!

Getting there:

Live the high life and travel like a true jetsetter in a speedy Aeropelican flight direct from Sydney to the Snowy Mountains. The trip only takes an hour and Aeropelican operate all year round, with three or more flights running each day during the peak season. Flights start at $129 one way, and you’ve got the added value of 23kg checked baggage so you can bring your entire winter wardrobe down with you (you never know who you might run into, after all…).

Staying there:
If you want five star accommodation, then Lake Crackenback Resort will definitely be at the top of your list. Nestled on the edge of the Kosciuszko National Park, you’re within easy reach of both Perisher and Thredbo slopes. There’s a range of accommodation to suit every ski bunny (and every credit card) – from one, two and three bedroom apartments which sit directly above a trout-filled lake or rent a private chalet (with your own fireplace, sauna, spa and tennis court) for you and your entourage with picturesque mountain views. Antonia Kidman and the cast of Jindabyne have all stayed there.

Experience there:
It’s the age-old dilemma – to ski or snowboard? Gwen Stefani, Victoria Beckham and Heidi Montag prefer the old stocks and poles, whilst stars like Holly Madison, Justin Timberlake and, of course, our Olympic gold medallist Torah Bright prefer to live on the edge (and their butts) and board the day away. One tip? If you’ve never done it before – always get a lesson. The beginner lessons only go for two hours and teach you all the basics on stopping, falling over and getting back up again… minus the broken bones. For the more experienced, there are always the Intermediate and Advanced classes that teach you to perfect your style.

Eat there:
After working up an appetite on the slopes, head to Base 1720 Bar and Restaurant at Perisher Manor. Ski in and out for a late breakfast, lunch and dinner, or thaw out with a cocktail or three – perhaps after you’re done with the ski activities for the day, naturally. And if you feel an Elton John moment coming on, there’s also a piano lounge on hand.

Try there:
If the snow isn’t for you, but you’ve been dragged along by a fanatical friend, then don’t despair. There are plenty of other activities you can try that don’t involve strapping yourself onto some slippery skis. First stop? Book in at the ultra-relaxing spa at Lake Crackenback Resort with massages so indulgent you’ll be asleep in seconds. For the big spender, there’s also a decadent Royal 24 Carat Gold Facial, which refreshes your skin with 24 carat gold-infused products, leaving you feeling like a star.
You can also hire bicycles and go for an exhilarating ride around the grounds, or bond with nature and explore the area with guided walk to help you spot all the wildlife (from a safe distance). There’s also archery, fishing and trampolines for the kids (and the kid inside).

PLUS: Check out all the celebs who are having a rather 'ice' time at the snow.
